Short answer
A tracker stores and analyzes your hands to show how you play. A HUD displays player stats at the table while you play. A GTO solver calculates equilibrium strategies for a defined spot. A tracker points to what to study; a solver helps examine a strategy for that spot.
| Tool | What it does | When it is used | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracker | Imports hand histories, calculates stats and lets you filter and review hands. | After playing. | How am I playing, and what should I study? |
| HUD | Overlays player stats on the table. | During play, when the room permits it. | How does this opponent play? |
| GTO solver | Calculates equilibrium strategies from ranges, stacks and bet sizes. | During off-table study. | What strategy is theoretically sound in this spot? |
What is a poker tracker?
A tracker is a database of your hands. It reads hand histories from the poker room and calculates stats such as VPIP, PFR, 3-bet, continuation bet and WTSD. With enough data, those stats reveal patterns that are hard to see hand by hand: positions where you open too wide, spots where you fold too often or streets where your aggression drops.
What is a HUD?
A HUD (Heads-Up Display) overlays the table with stats about players during a session. Its use depends on each poker room's rules; some restrict or prohibit certain tools. Check the room's current policy before using any software while playing.
What is a GTO solver?
A solver calculates an equilibrium strategy (GTO, Game Theory Optimal) for a defined spot, using assumptions about player ranges, stack depth and available bet sizes. Its output depends on those assumptions. A solver is a study tool; real-time assistance while playing is restricted or prohibited by major poker rooms, so check the rules that apply to your account.
How to combine them in your study
- The tracker finds a pattern. Stats show which spots deviate from a reasonable reference for your format.
- Hand review checks the pattern. Replay real examples to see which decisions create the deviation.
- A solver or reference ranges help explain it. Study a sound strategy for that specific spot.
- A trainer builds repetition. Practice the spot until the decision becomes familiar.
- The tracker measures progress. Check in later periods to see whether the adjustment holds.
Where PokerDataOS fits
PokerDataOS is a browser-based poker tracker with study tools. It imports hand histories, calculates stats, prioritizes possible leaks with Leak Detector, replays hands street by street and lets you practice preflop decisions in Trainer.
PokerDataOS is not a HUD, does not provide real-time assistance and is not a solver that calculates a solution for every spot. Its preflop Trainer uses GTO reference ranges for MTT and cash, and a heuristic engine for Spins. Exercises show the source used for their answer.
